Big change for employees earning over R21 197,64

Mar 30, 2024 | FYI's

Amendments have recently been made to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA). Effective April 1st, 2024, the new earnings threshold is now R254,371.67. This means that employees earning more than R21,197.64 per month will no longer be covered by certain protections provided by the BCEA, Employment Equity Act, and Labour Relations Act. These include regulations concerning ordinary hours of work, overtime, public holiday pay, and other related provisions.

These changes can have a significant impact on employment contracts, remuneration structures, and compliance with labour legislation. It is therefore essential for businesses to stay updated with these changes and review their contracts for compliance with the amendments.
